RE: Full body paint vs Wrap?

I saw a brand new 2007 Revolution get wrapped and in the process blocked or limited the airflow around the refer unit. The first time they turned it on overnight to cool for a trip the next day.....huge fire and nothing left but a warped chassis and a pile of ash. Pretty much would eliminate the wrap idea for me...... Just because some du...UM...person of limited itelect... did some thing wrong don't dismiss the hole process. It could be an option for some one on a limited budget or some one who wanted a wild or different look to there coach that could not be painted on.JMO

RE: On license and DOT cert.

One other poster touched on the solution to your problem. If you could not plate your truck with "non comercial tags" it should have been kicked out buy your DMV when you registered it. In Michigan they recently changed plates for tow trucks. They have a new "Wrecker" tag. If you try to get a regular truck plate for a wrecker the computer at the DMV will not let it go through. The only way that some still get around it is by using "home built" tow trucks. But they don't get away with it for too long because the new plates say "wrecker" on them and it is easy for an officer to see you don't have the right plates. I think you should fight the ticket if you are able. P.S. Was it in Mass. that Arlo Gunthrey had a run in with Officer Opie and the hole Alices Resturant Fieasco? You did not have any trinty racing stickers on your truck did you?

RE: Multiple tie-out question

You might want to check into what the "field trialers" (folks who show hunting dogs in competition) call a "chain gang". They will some times have 10 or more dogs linked on a chain gang. It is just one long chain (can be as long or short as needed) streched out tight and staked to the ground at each end. Along this chain they hook lead chains to each dog about 3 foot long. The leads are hooked to the main chain about 7 to 8 feet apart. That way the dogs can not get tangled into one another and it only takes two stakes to hold out many dogs. P.S. The mushing dogs use a similar tie out for multiple dogs. :B

RE: Carbon monoxide detector going off for no reason?

Did it go off and keep going off or was it just a short beep and then reset? Reason I ask is we have one detector near the floor in the rear room. Our dog (large) will sleep on the floor next to it and if she rolls against it and blocks off the air it will go off and scare her. When she moves it goes back off again so it normaly only will beep one or two times. :B It took me a while to find out. :h Might be what happened to you.

RE: Illinois Governor shuttering State Parks

Oh what a shame. Are they going to be closed for good or just until next season? I don't know for shure but it might just be a "scare tactic" similar to what they pulled here in MI last year. Our "Full time goverment" could not agree on a buget in time so they shut down the state parks and ran everyone out at midnight and told state employes (including the state troopers) there was no money to pay them. This whent on for All of about 4 hours. Then they just happened to make an agreement. P.S. I also seen that Gov Arnold in CA is attempting a similar ploy. If you can't get your way...Push some folks around some seems to be the "in thing".

RE: 12 Volt Digital TV Converter

FYI Looked at a lot of DTV converters. Many are sold with transformers (might have used the wrong term here) that cut the 110AC house power down to DC voltage. Looking at them that way you might find some more options.

RE: Fueling up at Flying J

I used flying J also till they changed there gas discount. At first you would get at least .01 cent per gallon off just for being a RV reward member... The .01 cent discount is back starting September 1. Thanks for the info. You know it seams to me they should send somthing out to rewards members about this. They have my address and contact info. I am shure they kept track of my fuel purchases (in the thousands) and then seen I droped off the map after it changed. OH WELL JMO :B

RE: Pilot Stations for RV Gasoline

Also not all Flying J's have RV pumps either on our trip out West this spring we found finding a gas station that had enough room for a RV towing a car to get in and out easily a hit and miss propostition. We wasted a considerable amount of time getting off the highway to get gas only to find that the gas station was not set up right, too small or too busy. We whent out west from Mi to CA last winter. Our stops were 99% at Flying J and had no trouble getting our MH (with car in tow) into and out of the Rv fuel lanes. I did check the Flying J web site before we left so I knew the ones that "did" and "did not" have RV lanes. The internet "does" help in trip planning. :B

RE: camp grounds in Grand Canyon

Trailer Village inside the Grand Canyon National Park (South rim). Full hook-ups, big rig friendly, walking distance to all southrim lodges, attractions. Ditto - stayed there 3 years ago - it was just the right place for everything. Ditto again...We stayed there last dec. and was verry happy with it. Watch out for the black birds....They will try to fly away with anything shinnie. :E

RE: Check out the new RV FRIENDLY Shell stations!!!

Both forign owned companies as the name implies. Perhaps Flying J, Loves and Pilot are not the most convenient, but at least they are AMERICAN! Well then maybe those AMERICAN companys should take a hint. Lets face it customer service is getting harder to find as the "ME" mentality gets more popular. Domestic consumers should not be expected to ignore poor customer service just to buy localy. JM2C Yea Rock let us know were it is??

RE: 9-year-old Onan gen with 40 hours. Should I worry?

We have an old onan gen set at the cabin. Must be over 20 years old now. It don't have an hour clock but we might use it once a year, some times we don't. If we do use it we run it out of gas (shut off the fuel valve) before we put it away. We check the oil (change it if it looks dirty) and turn on the gas and start it up when we need it. This has worked fine for us for many years. I don't belive in regular excersise of a gen either. I think this excersise myth was started by the gen companys because folks would not use (wear out) there gens and buy more. JMO If it aint broke....Don't fix it. But regular attention (maintiance) or test running a unit that you "HAVE TO" depend on never hurts either.

RE: Fueling up at Flying J

I used flying J also till they changed there gas discount. At first you would get at least .01 cent per gallon off just for being a RV reward member. Now you have to spend "X" number of dollars "the prior month" in their store to recive any discount. The discount does go up the more you spend in the store but I don't have a flying J near me to spend any money in there store one month prior to a trip so I can't get the discount when I do travel. They are still a nice place to stop but as another poster said We can do better on the price of gas by shoping around some, and if you are like me and buying over 60 gals at a time it adds up.

RE: Roofing material question

I live in Michigan. A lot of "older" trailers around here have done a similar thing (using shingles) but due to "snow loads" in our area they build a "A" frame or "peeked" roof frame on top of the trailer and then shingle that. We see it mostly in the northern part of our state. It might be an idea for you.

RE: EZ Pass transponder

I have friends in NJ and NY that just set the easy pass on the dash. They use it in different cars so they never stuck it on the windshield. It works fine as long as they remember to put it in the car they are driving.

RE: 7 thousand dollar brake repair. Be careful when you buy.

All this talk about the "Repair" is probly not going to help you much. I guess you had this "work" done prior to the "sale". I would also guess YOU have no "repair" order for this "work". Why would you, the coach was not yours yet. The fact is anyone (including the cat garage) who had this coach could have done it. You have to "prove" it was that way when YOU picked it up. Just your word against theirs. If you have proof its a different story.

RE: 7 thousand dollar brake repair. Be careful when you buy.

We were still unhappy with the brakes, but after a long discussion with the sales manager and the service department, they convinced us the the ABS brakes were different and did not stop as fast as regular brakes. Why would ABS brakes make a vehical "NOT STOP AS FAST"? :h Sorry but you should have got a second opinion before you finished the sale if you did not understand some thing. As other posters said. It will be up to you to prove who did it. Nearly imposible. Good Luck

RE: Dry camping question.

Hello. I have a class A with a 4000 wat onan gen set. I actualy added two outlets (one on each side in the basement) for just the reason you are asking about. Each is on its own 15 amp circiut so if they pull to much it will not shut off stuff in my rig and I will know who pulled to much juice. Have used them for 2 years now without problems. I do tell them they can't use A/C but it has been enough for their frig and charging needs. Only had the fuse pop once.:E They were using a fan and hair dryer along with other lights and TV.:R I reset the fuse they turned off the fan and TV till there hair was dry and all was good. :B

RE: toilet seals

I replaced my toilet with a new ceramic type 2 years ago. The new toilet came with a new "rubber" seal. I used the new rubber seal and have not had a problem. The old toilet seal came off with out trouble. It was a rubber seal also. JM2C

Anyone remove there dash mounted TV?

I have a 99 allegro with the front TV in the dash. I know I can get a converter box for digital conversion but I have already replaced the Tv in the back with a newer model flat screen to get away from that "big head bumping box" that most came with back then. I realy can't remember the last time we used the front tv. I am thinking of just removing the old front tv to get away from any digital conversion issues and also don't know why I would want to put any money into making somthing work that I don't use. Also that big old tv must weigh close to 100lbs, getting rid of that much dead weight can't hurt. I have seen many units with the tv in the dash and others with the tv in the over head. I was wondering if anyone has removed their front dash mounted tv and if you did what did you do with the big hole in the dash. Was there a different center section that you could get from the models with the tv in the overhead to bolt in its place or did you have to make a new section to cover yours? Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Scooter instead of tow vehicle???

Also these scooters have to be tagged and registered. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the electric scooters don't have to meet these requirements. Those sound like interesting options. I'll try one first, this time. Yes little electric scooters I have require no licence, no insurance, no plates or registration. Was just some other reasons why I whent with the electrics. They may not be as fast as the gas ones but they shure beat walking and I just plug them in and recharge them when they get low on juice. :W
